Science and I

When I think of science, I mostly think about third grade. In third grade, one of our many lessons was on clouds. My little third self was so amazed that the white puffy things in the sky had names. Names such as Cumulus, Cirrus, and Stratus. I found myself looking up at the sky naming all the clouds and predicting what weather they were going to bring.

In the years after third grade I found myself in many different science courses such as anatomy, chemical, health, biology, and earth and environment. I found a fascination with anatomy mostly because during this class my uncle was diagnosed with cancer. I was puzzled with how cancer happened so I spent my extra time researching this life changing disease.  After this course and my experience, I decided to pursue a career in the medical field.

I have learned over the years that science is everywhere and the possibilities are endless. I am looking forward to growing and learning more about science in this class and throughout my lifetime.

  1. Great job on your first blog post Rachel! Two very minor tips for the next ones (and you can edit this one too to fix it)- you don't need the blog post title in the body of the text, because it already appears when you enter it into the title field, and you also don't need your name on each blog post, since you are the author of the entire blog :) I love that the most vivid memory of your exposure to science in your younger years is learning the names of clouds and trying to predict the weather. It goes to show how when something is relatable (everyone can connect with clouds and trying to predict the weather!) people are much more likely to retain information and apply it later on. Great to hear about wanting to pursue a career in a medical field, AppState has some great programs in health sciences to start you off.
